Other Covens in our Tradition:

The West Coast Eclectic Tradition started with the Circle of the Soaring Spirit, and has flowed outward from there. However, the development and transmission has not been uni-directional, as several covens have formed with strong influences from other traditions, and through sharing, our tradition expands and changes. An example of this dynamic is our sister coven, Circle of the Star Temple.

The Circle of the Wildewood is another sister coven in the NM area. Formed on May 2, 1992 in San Diego by hiving from Circle Atheneum. It is led by Lady Aanja & Falkan.

Circle of the Cosmic Muse is another daughter coven of Circle Atheneum, and is now located on the East Coast. It is led by Maria Kay Simms, who has published a great book that reflects our tradition well, with a strong astrological influence. Originally named after the coven, the book is now titled "The Witch's Circle: Rituals and Craft of the Cosmic Muse" in its current incarnation, and is published by Llewellyn. Maria has written a lot of other books, if you are interested.

All three of these covens belong to the Covenant of the Goddess. CWM, CST, and CWW are all part of the Chamisa Local Council.

About the Circle of the Winter Moon:

The Circle of The Winter Moon is a teaching coven in the West Coast Eclectic Tradition. Founded in 1988 by Lord Ur and Lady AmberIsis, who received their Third Degrees from their parent coven Circle of the Soaring Spirit (HPs Lady Olwen-Vivienne and HP Lord Hephaestus), CWM was accepted as a member coven of the Covenant of the Goddess in 1994. Following the untimely death of Lord Ur early in 2005, leadership was passed to Shara and MacLamont the Fireheart at Samhain of that year.

We meet at the times appointed by the circle of the heavens to celebrate the turning of the seasons by worshiping the Goddess and the God in their many aspects. We work on the full moon Esbats, some dark moon Esbats, and also celebrate all the Sabbats with special emphasis on Samhain and Beltain. Our work stresses the restoration of balance between the feminine and masculine aspects of divinity, and the pursuit of deep connection with the seen and unseen worlds. We emphasize the attunement of the individual with the seasonal cycles and the natural world, personal responsibility, and spiritual growth.

We are witches. As such we hold true to the Wiccan Rede, "And Ye harm none, do as Ye Will", mindful of the Law of Three, and adhere to the Charge of the Goddess.

Our covenstead in Albuquerque, NM, is named Caer Ùraich Awen. The Welsh Gaelic word 'Caer' means fortress, manor, or great house (as opposed to a small home), 'Ùraich' means to renew, be renewed, refresh, recreate, become fresh or green, and 'Awen' is an Irish Gaelic word which means a fluid, flowing living principle, being, spirit, or essential element, the divine element of inspiration from the cauldron of Ceridwen. Awen is the ultimate muse, called by some the holy spirit of Druidry, reflecting on the transformation and illumination of Taliesin. The meaning of the name, thus, is the manor of renewal and recreation by the divine inspiration granted by flowing spirit. Ceridwen, and her consort Cernunos are the patron Goddess and God of our coven.

The living room fireplace in our previous covenstead in the East Mountains, near Albuquerque. It is decorated for Yule.
