A longer bio:

Scott Chisholm Lamont, BSN, RN, CCRN, CFRN, ENC(C) is a pediatric critical care nurse and flight nurse with over 21 years of health care experience, including 14 years as an RN, practicing with every age group in settings from the Arctic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico.  He completed EMT certification, basic nursing program, and formal education in trauma and cardiovascular critical care in the province of Alberta, studying at SAIT, at Mount Royal College, and at the Foothills Hospital School of Nursing, respectively (the FHSON certification programs were moved to MRC when that school closed in 1995). He holds both adult and pediatric critical care certification as well as flight certification and emergency certification.  He is currently on leave of absence as a doctoral student at the University of California, San Francisco School of Nursing, in the Department of Community Health Systems under the advisement of Dr. Jean Ann Seago. During his break he is busily trying to get papers written for his qualifying exams in hopes of advancing to candidacy. His research interest is system of care effects on patient safety, particularly the relationship between nurses' cognitive workload and threats to patient safety.

While attending UCSF full time, Scott lived on an island in the Bay and served as an adjunct lecturer and clinical instructor at Dominican University of California Department of Nursing. He maintained a clinical practice as a per diem pediatric palliative care nurse for a home hospice program called Comfort for Kids, based in Pleasant Hill, Contra Costa County, CA, and volunteered for a UCSF student sponsored health promotion project called the Children's Health Hut.

Prior to beginning his graduate studies, he practiced in Albuquerque, NM at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center as a Specialty Nurse III at the Children's Hospital.  After working for several years in the PICU, he headed up the Pediatric Pain Team and worked at the Children’s Hospital Heart Center.  He also held a joint appointment at the College of Nursing as an Adjunct Clinical Lecturer, after completing his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree there. He is curently back at UNM Hospitals, serving as the Emergency/Trauma Clinical Educator and as a pediatric clinical instructor for the College of Nursing, teaching senior students on their complex client rotation. He also serves the Mariposa Pediatric Hospice program as a pain and symptom management consultant and an on-call nurse.

Scott is a founder and current member of the Board of Directors of Silver Moon Health Services, a non-profit health care organization in New Mexico sponsored by the local Pagan spiritual community. He holds credentials as clergy through the Covenant of the Goddess, and is the High Priest of Circle of the Winter Moon, a teaching coven in the West Coast Eclectic Tradition. He is a past Board member and a current Advisory Board member (both along with his wife and High Priestess) for Ardantane, a Pagan learning center located in the beautiful Jemez Canyon in New Mexico. He teaches leadership topics such as conflict resolution and consensus facilitation for Ardantane.

A published poet and author, including works in anthologies, nursing text books, and spoken word on radio, Scott enjoys creative writing and the arts. He stays active in his community, supporting and volunteering for many progressive causes. He has run for political office several times, including for Mayor of the Town of Banff in that municipality's first election as an incorporated Town (at the age of 22, placing 4th in a field of 4, but surprizing the hell out of everybody with a solid campaign), for Town Council three years later (placing 7th in a field of 12 for 6 seats), and for Member of Parliament as the Green Party candidate for the riding of Wildrose in the 1993 federal election. Scott served on the Town of Banff Family and Community Support Services Board for over 5 years, one year as chair. He has also served on the State of New Mexico EMS Advisory Board, representing the New Mexico Nurses Association for over 5 years.

Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, in the year of Canada's Centennial, Scott has also lived in Montreal PQ, Banff AB, Yellowknife NWT. Following the decimation of the Alberta health care system by the Ralph Klein government in the early to mid 1990's, Scott was forced to relocate to the USA as one of "King Ralph's Refugees" (not to be confused with "Mimic Mike's Refugees"), practicing first in Brownsville TX, then Albuquerque NM, then in San Francisco CA. He recently returned to Albuquerque, and lives in the high desert with his wife, Shara, and daughter, Micaela, and the two cats that run their lives. Most of his family remains in Alberta, including his parents, John and Norma, and his brother Kyle. Scott likes to waste his free time dreaming about sailing around the world.
